Tooth Plaque Causes, Treatment & Prevention
Plaque
is a colorless film of bacteria that builds up on teeth. It generally
makes your teeth feel fuzzy to the tongue. It is noticeable when you
don’t brush your teeth. In case the plaque is not treated on time,
or it stays on your teeth for too long, this will result in decay and
gum diseases.
What
Causes Plaque?
Foods
containing carbohydrates like milk, raisins, cakes, candy, soft
drinks, etc. are frequently left on the teeth and result in
delivering plaque. Bacteria in your mouth thrive on this food and
produces the acids. Over time, these acids destroy tooth enamel and
result in tooth decay.
Prevention
& Treatment
- Brush your teeth twice a day using a soft and rounded-tip bristled toothbrush. Hold the brush in a 45-degree angle to accurately clean your teeth, especially clean the space where the gums and teeth meet. Utilize a fluoride-containing toothpaste.
- Floss between teeth to remove the bacteria and food particles from your mouth.
- Utilize the antibacterial mouth rinse to remove and prevent bacteria that lead to plaque and other teeth diseases.
- Eat a balanced diet and limit the between-meal snacks. In case you want snacks, opt for nutritious foods like plain yogurt, fruit, cheese and raw vegetables.
- See your dentist after every 6 months for the check-up and teeth cleaning.

Of course! Everyone knows sweets and such bad sedentary eating habits results in destruction of teeth. Both my kids are into all this and always we have to take extra care of their oral hygiene. One thing is surely to be done is taking them to dentist Manhattan Beach every now and then for regular check up. Also suggested the same clinic to my sister in law for her daughter's gum pain.
